“Our Father,” we are to pray, “forgive us our debts.” With these words we declare our moral bankruptcy, freely admitting that we owe God more than everything we have. Then we ask Him to forgive us outright. And because He is our loving Father, God does what we ask. When we go to Him weighed down with the debt of all our sin, He does not sit down with us to work out a payment plan. Instead, He offers full and free forgiveness…There are still some things we owe to God, however — not out of debt, but out of gratitude — and one of those things is forgiveness.”
-Philip Ryken
“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
as God in Christ forgave you.”
-Eph. 4:32
How to Pray Throughout the Month:
-
Amid globally tumultuous times, we continue this month to pray with China for the world. Pray first that God’s people will understand the weight and severity of sin.
-
Pray for Christians to rest in the good news that God delights to forgive our sins, and that our debt has been paid through Christ.
-
Pray for Christians to value true conflict resolution over superficial forgiveness by papering over wrongs instead of addressing the deeper issues.
-
Pray for believers to come to a deeper understanding of God’s forgiveness of them through their obedience and forgiveness of others.
