Editor’s note: Changsha is in south-central China, and is famous as a center of academic learning, spicy food, and the hometown of many revolutionaries (including Mao Zedong). The city is a popular tourist destination within China, and its people love to enjoy themselves.
China Partnership: What passage of Scripture do you feel is representative of Changsha?
We Will Serve the Lord
Huang Anping: In our family, we have always had a banner that has Joshua 24:15 on it. It says, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
That is my favorite verse.
When my son was 5 or 6 years old, a calligraphy teacher gave us that banner as a gift. Ever since then, it has been hanging in our home. I hope that my son, and one day my grandson, will also serve. I want this to be part of our family legacy, for 50 or even a hundred years. From the time when I became a Christian, I’ve wanted my descendants to serve the Lord.
Just As in the Days of Lot
Sun Guanghu: I thought of one, but I’m not sure if it’s appropriate. In the book of Luke it talks about people in the days of Lot.
Luke 17:27-28 says: “They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building.”
That is the verse that came to mind.
Sister Liang Mei: I was thinking of that passage, too, but I couldn’t remember where it was. Yes, people are eating and drinking, just like in the days of Lot. This suggestion is a good one – I think it really represents the city.
Huang Anping: Jesus also said this generation is a wicked and adulterous generation. Matthew 16:4 says: “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of Jonah.” So he left them and departed.”
Never miss a story
Huang Anping, Sister Liang Mei, and Sun Guanghu are pseudonyms for house church pastors in Changsha.
Pray for the people of Changsha to turn from the pleasure they pursue and follow Christ instead.
