1 Way to Pray for China this Week

Last week, Christians across China were shocked and dismayed by a TV confession made by a leading Christian lawyer. Zhang Kai was active in working against the government initiated cross demolitions that have been taking place over the past year. Zhang was detained in August and had not been heard from until the confession aired.

As news of the confession continues to be hotly discussed online in China, join us in lifting up the situation. Christians in China have been greatly discouraged by this video and have been discussing online and via messaging apps why this lawyer would lie and betray the churches he was working with and for, and how Christians needs to pray for boldness, courage, and humility when facing persecution.

How to pray:

Pray for Zhang and his family. Pray for the Holy Spirit to work mightily in his heart and to restore his sense of calling and purpose. Pray for physical, mental, and emotional protection for Zhang and for those most closely connected to him. Pray that he would be able to speak with his family and friends.

 –    Pray for Chinese Christians to learn from this situation and for them to lift high the name of Jesus if and when they face various forms of persecution. Pray that we in the West would also lift high the name of Jesus in our daily lives.

Pray for the Chinese government, local and national. Pray for repentance and wisdom. Pray for leaders who have the people’s best interests at heart. Pray Matthew 5:43-48 over the Chinese church. Pray that the church will love those who persecute them.

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same? You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
