China & the Church

Are you just beginning your journey of learning about China and the Chinese church?

The Chinese church has a rich history with many flavors. At China Partnership, we support a particular “slice” of that heritage: an indigenous gospel movement emerging from China’s unregistered house church movement.

What is the House Church?

The “house church” is a term used to describe China’s unregistered churches that do not submit to the oversight of government religious organizations. Rather, they claim Christ as their only authority.

Chinese Society

In order to understand the church in China, we must understand their cultural context. What is modern China culture like? What trends create opportunities or challenges for the church? How should those outside of China view it?

The Church & Culture

How should the church in China relate to the culture around it…especially when that culture is often more actively hostile? Many house church Christians see the church as set apart by God, yet not necessarily against the culture. Rather, they see their task as engaging and transforming the culture around them.

Suffering & Persecution

Since 2017 and the institution of new religious regulations in China, the unregistered church has faced a steady wave of persecution. How is the church responding to this pressure?
No matter what the climate in China, our desire is to see the church deeply rooted in Christ. Here one pastor speaks about the transformation that has taken place in his life, his ministry, and his family as a result of refocusing on the gospel. While we can certainly pray for persecution to end, it is even more important to pray for this kind of gospel renewal. Join us in praying that Christ will continue to transform his people in China!

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN CHINA

With rising pressure and persecution in China, there are two challenges imperative for church leaders. The first challenge is for current leaders to love Christ above all else, and not to stray into legalism or love of the world. The second challenge is to raise up the next generation of leaders, who will humbly model Jesus even if current leaders are arrested.

WILL YOU JOIN US IN PRAYING FOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN CHINA? PRAY FOR:

  1. Current leaders to grow in their daily walks with Christ
  2. Current leaders to shepherd and raise up new leaders
  3. New leaders who love Christ and will model him to the world
  4. New leaders to love and care for the church
